"With complex issues, you can analyze, but the ground is always shifting. Distinguishing between the two helps you figure out how to approach a problem. A complex task on the other hand - like analyzing financial markets - is complex. A complicated task - like fixing a car engine - is tricky, but once you figure it out, you can replicate the solution easily. The big takeaway, Henes said, is figuring out if an issue you're tackling is complicated or complex. Jon Henes, the CEO of the leadership consultancy C Street Advisory Group, recommended the book for its advice on decision-making. He argues leaders of any kind can apply the same rules to their own endeavors. In his book " Team of Teams," McChrystal lays out the leadership and management tactics he drew on. Stanley McChrystal is a retired US Army general best known for leading the Joint Special Operations Command from 2003 to 2008, a team that oversaw high-profile missions like the operation that killed a top leader of Al-Qaeda in Iraq. "It articulates how more sustainable businesses learn collectively, how they have less hierarchy, and how they adapt faster as new power structures create more agile and decisive cultures." "The book clearly sets out how rapidly changing business models will demand flatter structures, more collaboration and supercharged communication," he said. The book offers a new way to look at power and how to use it for good.Ĭlarke Murphy, leadership advisor at management consultancy Russell Reynolds Associates and the author of the forthcoming book " Sustainable Leadership," recommended "New Power" for its analysis on leadership. In this book - which business visionaries like Richard Branson, the founder of Virgin Group, and Reid Hoffman, the cofounder of LinkedIn, recommend - the authors examine the rise of companies like Facebook and Uber, people like President Barack Obama, and movements like #MeToo. Honestly, I have yet to beat Days of Ruin. But I'll try just beating the missions normally instead to build my skill back up. It's been 4 years since I last played an AW game and that was Days of Ruin (which I felt was much easier already than the older ones due to lack of a hard campaign). I played it a bit yesterday, but I quickly noticed that I'm too rusty to have a chance of getting S rank even on the first few missions. I notice Caulder has this rouge pixel in front of him during full body shots. But even then, it's still pretty easy once you figure that out. Most of you probably did the first time. You now control what would have been the enemy territory in the original. And while it was, it took me 2 days to figure out the playing grounds were switched. After realizing Spann Island is the only returning map, I thought that would be the best place to start. I'm a little rusty as well, but I do like a challenge. That being said, I'm going to have fun with this hack. In other words, I can play a game that's hard, as long as it doesn't become near impossible. That's also cause it doesn't pull BS like auto-hitting moves or completely disrupting your view of the action like some games and hacks I've played. For Example: the infamous Ninja Gaiden, sure it will frustrate me, but it's hard enough to be called "fun" hard, as each bit in the game has a trick to solving it. I dislike certain games or hacks for having an UNREASONABLE amount of challenge. Some people seem to think I hate challenge, as I'm always bashing games that have a high amount of it. Play against or as the series' evil villains - Caulder, Sturm and Von Bolt.Unlockables - Earn more COs by scoring S Ranks on maps!.Improved Enemy AI - Enemy COs no longer use CO powers when they'd have no reason to use them and use them more intelligently!.Extended Status Screen - Shows your rank in progress and whether you have S-Ranked this map with the current CO.New deterministic weather rules for fairer scoring!.Pre-deployed maps provide unique army compositions depending on your CO selection - a feature returning from Advance Wars 1!.Improved status screens - The unit status screen now shows CO abilities more accurately and with more stats.Improved high score support - The game records S-ranks achieved on each map with each CO.Some COs from Advance Wars Dual Strike and Days of Ruin make an appearance as well! Each CO has unique combat abilities in the War Room setting. Each map has an info dossier with the par time and author of the map.Tutorial map with summary of game rules, scoring and new hack features. 30 New War Room Maps to play on - Some remixes of existing maps, most brand new from the AW Community. All the challenges present are hand-crafted by Xenesis and many, many members of the Advance Wars community with over a year's worth of refinement. The more enthusiastic members of the Advance Wars community were also involved - helping with graphics, map design, utilities and playtesting.Ĭomplete with new COs from the AW series, plenty of challenging maps and a bundle of hand-coded new features, this is a definitive hack to play for Advance Wars fans (or people who like turn based strategy games!). Lots of music, graphics, maps and assembly code were generated solely for the hack. Instead, it has turned into something that's taken over a year to put together, complete with a large amount of refinements and gameplay additions. The original intention for the project was to develop a new War Room challenge for Advance Wars 2 in about two months with some fun maps and a few new challenge. This hack is a much fuller implementation of what was aimed at a good six years ago, aided by a huge understanding of how the game works and all the hacking advancements that have happened over that period. The War Room challenge is actually the second attempt at a full challenge mode for the game, with the first attempted in the very early days when the map format wasn't even known so it was mostly substitutions and new goals for maps. While not as well recognised as its partner series Fire Emblem, it has a cult following of some extremely skilled players. Advance Wars 2 - Black Hole rising was the second of the quirky turn based strategy wargames that got released outside of Japan on the Gameboy Advance. At that time we were reading all this stuff about Quake being impossible to do on the PSX, which we thought was just untrue. The one we used for ShadowMaster was tailored precisely toward the needs of that project, in short it was efficient but limited. The New Engine IGNPSX: Are you using a brand new engine to create Quake II on the PlayStation, and if so, what are its strengths, and how will it make Quake II unique on the PlayStation?Ĭhris: For Quake II we're using a completely new engine. Every title released by Travellers' up to and including Toy Story, and Mickey's Wild Adventure had a large amount of input from at least one of us. Prior to that, the bulk of our core staff members all worked under the Travellers Tales banner. Recommended, small and discrete.IGNPSX: What games has Hammerhead Studios worked on in the past?Ĭhris Stanforth: As Hammerhead we did ShadowMaster on PSX and PC last year. Pay around £100 for a good one but some have gone for as little as £50!. The Bass is tuneful, fast (being only an 8" driver) and very much felt. In or close to a corner it is far too boomy and slow. Superb with Blues Bass guitar and super f ast with Rock. In Nearfield positioned next to my listening chair I can feel the Bass. Any lower and there is a "hole" in the lower Bass. with my floorstanding speakers that, go down to 28Hz the REL is set at 41Hz accodring to the scale. Set the crossover by ear as the graduated scale is not linear e.g. I use mine for Music, 2 channel, in a 12Ft x 13 Ft room and in Nerafield position which, I find best. I mean, no matter how I set it up I could tell where the Bass was coming from. On solid flooring I found it hard to make it "dissappear". Have had greater success with carpeted rooms and spikes. Fantastic for smaller rooms and will play loud. Owners tend to look after them so used is a safe bet. Second time around of owning one of these. (See pictures of Russia celebrating Victory Day.)īut Poborchiy is also convinced that Putin is lying. Indeed, Poborchiy seems self-consciously Putinesque, sporting a tracksuit with the Russian tricolor and leading a men's team of ice swimmers who converge on a lake for morning races every winter, when Murmansk descends into darkness for nearly two months. At 51, he admires Putin, who may no longer officially run the Kremlin but is assumed to orchestrate the every move of his successor, Dmitry Medvedev. Poborchiy nicely captures this incongruity. There is a contradiction here: The people spearheading the memorial are Kremlin loyalists who do whatever Moscow tells them to do, while the memorial they are building appears to conflict with Kremlin interests. (This memorial also mentions the Kursk sailors, but Vitaly Poborchiy, a local businessman and ranking member of the regional branch of the pro-Kremlin United Russia party, says townsfolk want a monument dedicated solely to the Kursk.) Regional governor Dmitry Dmitriyenko pledged his support and the city has set aside a small plot overlooking the harbor and next to another memorial, a lighthouse dedicated to sailors who died in peacetime. 29 town-hall meeting, locals said they wanted it turned into a memorial. tall, sparked a furor in Murmansk at an Apr. Abramova's father and uncle, like so many men in this city pockmarked with Khrushchev-era apartment blocks and cell-phone billboards, were once submariners. "It was like seeing people who had died," Abramova says, of finding the hulking section that once wrapped around the central nervous system of the 154-ft. 17, after months of searching, Tatyana Abramova, a reporter at the newspaper Murmanskiy Vestnik, happened upon the deck cabin of the Kursk in a dump outside Murmansk, the largest city north of the Arctic Circle, and a few miles from the headquarters of the Northern Fleet. Remembering this sort of self-inflicted tragedy would conflict with Soviet and post-Soviet myth-making about the power and glory of the Russian military. The Kursk’s wreckage was lifted in October 2001, allowing the investigators to retrieve 115 bodies and search the mangled hull for clues about the cause.Follow Russian government has said little about the Kursk nuclear submarine since it sank in the Barents Sea on Aug. The government’s bungled handling of the rescue effort shook the nation and dented President Vladimir Putin’s prestige. After a week, Russia finally invited Norwegian divers and it took them just hours to open the hatch, but by then it was too late to save anyone.Īfter the catastrophe, some navy officials said the crew members who survived the blast might have been alive for three days, but the investigators eventually concluded that all of them died of carbon monoxide poisoning within eight hours of the blasts - long before any help could arrive. The disoriented Russian navy command wasted hours before launching a search, and the authorities turned down offers of Western assistance, stubbornly sending Russian mini-submarines to make repeated futile attempts to hook onto the submarine’s escape hatch. Most of the 118 members of the crew were killed instantly, but as the submarine sank to the bottom of the sea, only about 350 feet (108 meters) below the surface, 23 men were able to flee to a rear compartment, where they waited for help. 12, 2000, after suffering two powerful explosions. submarines and a British sub were spotted in the area near the Russian naval exercise in the Barents Sea when the Kursk disaster happened. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov refused to comment on Popov’s claim and pointed to the official probe that concluded that the catastrophe was triggered by an explosive propellant that leaked from a faulty torpedo. He didn’t identify the submarine and acknowledged that he lacks proof to back up his claim. Popov told the state RIA Novosti news agency that the Western submarine was also damaged in the powerful explosion and sent a distress signal from the area.
